The Appellation of origin is one that uses the name of a region or geographical scope and that serves to designate, distinguish and protect a product according to its special characteristics derived, essentially, from the geographical environment in which it is made, considering natural, climatic and humans factors. (source: INDECOPI).
In Peru, we have already protected the following appellation of origins:
- Maíz Blanco Gigante del Cuzco,
- Cerámica de Chulucanas,
- Pallar de Ica,
- Café Villarrica,
- Loche de Lambayeque,
- Café Machu Picchu-Huadquiña,
- Maca Junin-Pasco,
- Aceituna de Tacna.
Taking the above-mentioned into account, it is necessary to use them to obtain an authorization granted by the Peruvian National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of the Intellectual Property-INDECOPI.
